Apple Environment? We Have Mac Compatible ID Card Printers
A growing number of business IT environments include Mac computers in their networks. Find out why using a Mac OS computer is no obstacle when choosing an ID card printer for your security program.
There’s a perception that business environments are always Windows environments. That’s not always the case. In fact, Apple is now one of the top three vendors in enterprise computing. Fifty-five percent of facilities now include Mac computers as part or all of their IT networks.
So, it’s not surprising that our customers often ask us about finding Mac compatible ID card printers. At Groove, we’re committed to supporting all our customers’ ID programs. We’re pleased to offer you card printers that can use Mac printer drivers.
Fargo DTC 1250e
For example, many schools use the Fargo DTC 1250e card printer and encoder. It’s the fastest printer in its class. It’s also compact and easy to use in a wide range of work environments. It uses a very intuitive plug-and-play interface, and you can upgrade it with an encoder that lets you manage secure credentials throughout your workflows.
You can download its Mac OS X driver at the HID Global support page. In the drop-down menus, select “Fargo” under brands, “DTC 1250e” under products, and “MacOS X” under operating system. Then, click on “Download” at the bottom of your screen.
Fargo DTC4250e
HID’s Fargo DTC4250e model, and HDP5000 also support the Mac Operating System. Fargo designed the DTC4250e for medium-sized facilities. Many of our customers use it for colour printing of photo ID cards or loyalty cards.
It has a scalable, modular design that makes it extremely versatile. You can upgrade it either to add modules or set higher security levels. It’s easy to set up, it uses all-in-one print ribbons, and it has a SmartScreen graphic display.
Fargo HDP5000
If you need more extensive functionality, you should consider the HDP5000. It delivers superior print quality, higher reliability, and greater security. It’s the ideal device for printing on technology-enabled smart cards. It offers a higher print speed and dual sided printing. Even with all these features, its simple, intuitive design makes it easy to use.
To download the Mac OS X driver for the DTC4250e or the HDP5000, go to the HID Global support page, and follow the instructions above. Just choose the corresponding model number under products in the drop-down menus.
Evolis Primacy

There’s a single-sided and a double-sided version, and they’re available with red or black trim. You can use it to encode magnetic stripes, smart contact cards, or smart contactless cards. You’ll find the Mac OS X driver for the Primacy at the Evolis support page. Scroll down in the Drivers window and select “Primacy” beside the Macintosh Driver heading.
